CPSC recall notices by year and country of manufacture

Sources checked

CPSC's recall data interface holds 1,528 recall notices dated 5 January 2023 to 8 October 2026, and 1,042 of them name China as a country of manufacture. The 2026 figures stop at 8 October 2026 and are not a full year. Every count below was made by this site from that data.

Notices by year

Year All notices Made in China Other countries only Country not stated
2023 324 174 146 4
2024 305 185 119 1
2025 420 301 119 0
2026, to 8 October 479 382 95 2
Total 1528 1042 479 7

"Made in China" means the notice lists a country of manufacture that starts with China; Hong Kong and Taiwan are not counted as China.

"Other countries only" means notices that name at least one country and none of them China.

A notice naming two or more countries is counted once under each country, so the rows cannot be added up and do not sum to the yearly totals. 54 notices name more than one country.

The notices name 57 different countries as spelled in the notices, and a few are spelled differently (for example USA and United States) and not merged, so a row can be slightly lower than a merged count would be. Bracketed product notes were removed, so "China (wood panels)" counts as China.

How the counts were made

Each record in CPSC's recall data interface carries a RecallDate (the date of the notice) and a ManufacturerCountries field (the country of manufacture, one entry per country). The counts in this article come from those two fields, counted by this site. They are not CPSC statistics.

What the counts do not tell you

These are counts of notices, not of products or injuries. They do not measure how safe products from any country are, and they say nothing about how much each country exports to the United States, because that is not in this data. The 2026 row covers notices up to 8 October 2026 only. The CPSC handles consumer products; food, medicines, vehicles and some other goods are recalled by other US agencies and are not in this data.
